DFID delivering £160 million to support education in Lebanon

This week, DFID Secretary of State Priti Patel announced, from Lebanon, that the UK would deliver on its commitment to contribute £160 million over four years to provided free education to hundreds of thousands of children.

This is excellent news for the region as it reinforces World Learning Europe’s underlying belief that education is not only a basic human right but a fundamental tool in combatting poverty and inequality.

Michele Turner, Executive Director of World Learning Europe added, “DFID’s announcement is a step in the right direction, leading the global community in following through with their commitments to support Syria and its neighbouring countries.  World Learning  is actively involved in education programs in Lebanon and we look forward to  further contributing to bettering the lives of young people in the region alongside and, ideally, with DFID.”
